Once or Twice Daily Feedings?!

Hi! Welcome to BYC :frow
Chickens don't need to be fed at particular times of the day like some pets. They should have constant, unrestricted access to fresh water and a well balanced chicken feed appropriate to their age (chick starter, grower, layer etc.). Treats are great in moderation but they shouldn't get too many.

Welcome.
Some feed a dry complete feed daily...fill a feeder and refill it when empty
Some ferment their feed and feed it once a day.
I ferment and feed it our twice a day.

Please read this..it's not "perfect" but if gives a great overall idea about feeding and treats:

:goodpost:

Whoops! I forgot that fermented feed works differently....Clearly I have only used dry feed. Thanks for clearing that up!!!!

Ya, I don't want to waste any feed. And surely don't know that much about fermentation, so that will be done at a later date, (few months) after I know what I'm doing right now. LOL

I don't get a lot of time to read, maybe send some audio links please, if you have them. While I'm quilting I listen to audio books, self help and references.

I have feed out constantly during the day so my girls have free access to that and their water at all times. I throw down scratch in the morning and some more in the evening when I get home from work. Other then that, they'll get kitchen scraps and sometimes not quite bad leftovers.

I put out fermented feed as well as a feeder of layer pellets in the morning. They polish off the ferment pretty fast. The pellets stay out all day and get put away at night to deter rats.

I hand out treats as I get them... some days it's just a few mealworms in the afternoon, other days I'm cleaning out the garden and have extra things to toss in for them. Like I was harvesting cherry tomatoes today so all the split ones got tossed into the run.
