One Chick a "Loner" Not Eating or Drinking? Just got them today!

I'm going to go with shipping stress. We had a hatchery White Rock that exhibited the exact same behavior as yours. The other 5 chicks were fine but the Rock just refused to thrive. Between nutri-drench, sav-a-chick, an eye dropper and some TLC from my wife, she got enough calories and good rest to start thriving. It took a few days and she was the runt of the litter for the longest time but now she's doing very well.

She's dying. :( I'm SO sad!! She's doing that weezing breathing that everyone talks about when they are dying. Meyer already gave me a refund and told me to call back on Monday if I want to order more. I don't want to order more, I want her to be alive! Ugh, it was our one buff orpington, and we really wanted her.

I'm thinking of running to the local feed store and buying another because they carry them there, although I was trying to avoid buying from a feed store in the first place, but I don't want to deal with the shipping again!

Not to mention, my 4.5 year old has already claimed her as her "favorite" so this is going to be fun to explain. Ugh.

Don't give up on her yet...I was ready to throw in the towel on my White Rock but the wife proved me wrong by gently forcing calories/nutrients/water into her with a dropper. She was gasping, laying on the floor going through what looked like seizures one day and the next she was hopping around peeping like a totally different chick.

My NHR caught something almost near her death.I let her go outside as she was gasping fort air she was having these weird like jumps around places like i had shot her in the neck. Finally we gave her drops and I was NOT giving up on her.I loved on her held her with caring.Next day after the drops and getting air in her she was OK!My hens are SURVIVORS!Its called E something I believe.do not give up on her!

I am so sorry she isn't doing well this morning. If she can still swallow maybe try giving her a little bit of water thinned yogurt with the dropper. Then just keep her warm and comfortable. I will be thinking of you and your chick throughout the day. Big Hugs!

She died. I'm SO sad. She was literally in my hands and like jolted out and almost fell on the floor so I put her back in her box, and she stretched out her feet and stopped breathing. So I saw her die. And of course the FIRST thing my daughter said when she woke up was, "where's buffy?" UGH!! So we are going to call the feed store when they open to see if they have buff orpingtons right now so we can replace her before the kids get home from school. We told her that she went to the doctor because her stomach hurt. I know I could do a lesson in death, blah, blah, but with a 2.5 and 4.5 year old, I'm just not up for it today.

Meyer said they will replace her and pay for shipping, but then I have to buy two more (since they can't ship less than 3), and I'm already over my limit with 6 (well now 5) because we are technically only allowed to have 4. The funny thing is that the reason I got 6 was in case a couple died on shipping, but now I want to replace her!

I'm so sorry taffers.

As painful as it must have been to see it up close and personal at least she had the comfort of your voice/touch to guide her off into the great beyond.

My leghorn died RIGHT in front of me.It brung me to tears and I couldn't sleep the rest of that night. As much as I loved her I will NEVER forget about her.Now today I think of all the things I could've done for to keep her going,I mainly think it was from that CRUMBLED JOE!my roosters he was ALWAYS picking on her.I kicked him and chased him a few times harsh as it sounds, but hey it was harsh what he was doing to my hen!Me and my leghorn Foggy a hen had a close relationship.Nothing could come between us.I did EVERYTHING for her I think im gonna cry again!
