One chick has died... two more are sick... please need help

Ok thanks so much, when you say in the back of the neck you mean under the skin? they wiggle so much, my hands are nervous...can be very stressful for this new chicken mama. Again, thanks so much for your help, because so many are in need of help and often no one get back to the questions, I thank you for taking the time to guide me through this.

As crazy as this sounds,i have found that if you place chick on a towel, gently place their head between fingers(so that they cannot see)and put a blow dryer on LOW heat, direct it towards them,(but not to close) I just lay blow dryer on counter if i do not have anyone to help. They are calm and will fall asleep. Has always worked for me. This makes cleaning or giving meds so much easier. Hope this helps.

thanks for sharing this... I plan on trying it tomorrow morning with their 2nd dose. Again thanks to everyone who helped me through this.

Make sure you give them plenty of fresh water with a guard to make sure they don't drown and give them medicated chick feed with a lil chick grit. Light humidity and a comfortable temperature which allows the chicks to actively roam.

Ok, so my chicks have been Tylan 200 .10cc (1/10 cc) once a day for three days now... this morning before the injection they were chirpy and moving about. Now, four hours after the injection they still are sleeping? The good news is they sleep without gaping, I haven't seen them drink or eat since this morning... they are to busy sleeping. Is this normal... I know when people/animals are sick they do sleep a lot. I'm getting a little discouraged. Didn't want to cull the little girls, but the more I read the less hopeful I am... we just wanted pets & eggs.

Could someone tell me if what they are doing is normal? Do you think the antibiotic is too much for them? They are babies still.

That dose of .10 cc is for Tylan 50, not Tylan 200. Tylan 200 is much stronger, 200 mg per ml versus 50, and usually used for larger animals. I do not know what the dose would be for that for something as small as a chick, or if it's even recommended for chicks. Hopefully somebody who knows will chime in. I would get the 50 and use that.

Since Tylan 200 is 200mg/ml vs Tylan 50 which is 50mg/ml, the dose of Tylan 200 would be 1/4th of the 50 if my math is right (if it's not, please say so!). This is one of the reasons that I weigh everything and dose them according to their weight in mg/kg.

I specifically asked for Tylan 50 at the feed store and she said she couldn't get it any longer. She told me that the only difference was the bottle size? So, I'm basically over dosing my babies.... I'm in tears right now... If she dies I'm going to feel responsible.

I'm feeling horrible right now...
