One chick has died... two more are sick... please need help

Okay, so 3.2 ounces is pretty close to 100 grams. Thinking out load here... since the recommended dose is 10-40mg/kg, and 100 grams is 1/10 of a kg, your chick would get between 1-4mg up to three times a day. Make sense?

0.10 ml is 5mg (Tylan 50), so I say it's close enough. Since most people here on BYC do it only once a day, I'd probably stick with that plan, but it's up to you. Maybe someday I'll try an experiment with it, lol. (evil laugh, see avatar)

If I have done the math incorrectly, please, please do let me know!

I think I'll give all ,but the little one, one single dose once a day , For her I'll cut the dosage in half and administer it to her twice a day. She seems to be sneezing a lot, but her gaping motion has stopped and she seems to be breathing better. I too hope they continue to bet better. Thanks for all the help!

That sounds like a good plan!

All but the smallest chick are doing very well, active, eating/drinking/pooping, and running from my hand when I try to pick them up. All except one... the littlest one. She is breathing a little more rapidly than the rest. I hear crackling noises when she breaths, she stays in one corner of the brooder and sleeps. She still is eating/drinking/pooping. But it is obvious that she has not improving. She isn't gaping for air which I take is a good sign. She has only one day left of her antibiotics if there isn't an improvement after that I just don't see her making it, although she has proven herself to be a fighter, who knows? Anyway I appreciate BYC site and all the members here who help each other out. I've learned a great deal and I know I've only touched the tip of the iceberg. I had often heard it said, that chickens are fairly easy to keep, I guess those who have said that haven't had to deal with an illness or some other incident. Again, thanks everyone!

Update 5/14/13 I weighed her and she weighs 3.3 oz so she is up. Her eyes are not bright, when she is not eating or drinking she sleeps, standing up. She has started to do a little gaping when she sleep. I just don't know, I believe she can go either way. The next day or two should tell us something.

Update 5/15/13
This was the last injection for all the chicks but the little one (all of them with the exception of the little are back to normal). I plan on extending her doses for two more days. I know the recommended days are 5 but she is still not completely over it. I believe if I stop the med now it will over take her and she will die. I'm not sure how the med will effect her internally with adding two more days of med but I have to take that chance with her. I had read a post that someone had given his 1 1/2 week chicks .10cc twice a day... I read a couple of posts where Tylan was given 7 days, so I'm going to try extending the med two more days. She has gained weight 3.6 oz, her eyes are looking better, not so sleepy looking. She is still drinking/eating/pooping. She can now lay down to sleep for short amounts of time. Poor baby has been sleeping standing up for five days now. She would try to lay down but I guess it was to restricting for her breathing and she would pop up on her feet again. She still sneezes but not as often. She never had puffy eyes, runny nose or wheezing. I don't hear the crackling noises when she breaths. However she still breaths rapidly and with a little difficulty.

Up Date 5/16/13
Well I've decided not to continue giving the littlest one antibiotics... she is sneezing all the time, sleep standing up and struggles to breath while sleeping. I'm starting to hear crackling noises again. What ever she has, the Tylan is not able to kill it off. Now, the chick we call her twin, because they are so close in size, is sneezing and shaking her head. I've put both chicks in separate box away from the others. I hope this infection does not go through the group again! What ever they have it's a monster! I'm just gonna try to make them as comfortable as possible. This is so very sad.

Any idea's of what I might be dealing with? We can't afford to have biopsy done.
