First thing you need to make sure you have is a safe container for the chick to live in with proper bedding. That can be anything from paper towels to wood shavings to wood bedding pellets. Secondly the chicken need a heat source which is going to be a heat lamp bulb generally they are red and 250 watt. You want to keep a section of the brooder heated with this heat lamp to 90 degrees for the first week of life and lower and approximately 5 degrees every week. You want to make sure there is a section of the border that does not have heat so that way the chick can get away from the heat and cool off.
Next you will need to buy some chick starter which can be obtained at just about any feed mill or Tractor Supply that you visit. Also get a small chick feeder and a small chick waterer.
Other than that they pretty much raised themselves. Yours will probably be noisier than usual since it is alone, would be best if you can find it a friend about the same age.
