Sometimes when you buy chicks some of the chicks are older than you would think. Chicks don't grow too much the first couple weeks so it can be hard to tell the difference between a week old chick and a day old hatching.
My local farm store gets chicks in once a week and if a chick hatched on Friday and didn't make it to the store until the following Thursday it could be standing right beside a day old chick that was shipped in the same box. And It would be nearly imposable to tell the difference between them until the older chicks started outgrowing the younger one. And sometimes there are leftover chicks from the previous week still waiting to be sold sharing the same bin.
I have one big chick i think is a week or more older than the others. Makes all the others look like runts.
