Hi everyone,

We have five chickens and they all roost except for one. When I close the coop in the evenings she is always resting on the floor while the others are roosting. There would be plenty of room for her to roost since we have two sticks (placed at equal height), three chickens roost on one and two roost on the other and neither sticks are overcrowded. I haven't noticed any aggressive or unwelcoming behavior from the other four chickens at all. Not during the day when they are out or in the evening when in the coop. I was worried the non-roosting chicken was getting bullied or not getting along but it doesn't seem to be the case. Would this be a cause of concern, or could it be that she simply doesn't like to roost?

Thank you in advance!

Giulia

What breed is she and how big are the sticks? They like flat roosts with about 1ft of roost space each. She may not like the roosts or if she’s a heavier breed she may struggle getting up to them. It is possible for her to get bullied off the roosts regardless of their size. Whichever reason it is, it likely isn’t connected to a deeper issue.

Edited: Grammar.

Good points and Question.
Age of birds might be a factor also.
Can you post pics of your coop showing roosts, please @giulicrds
