I only have one chicken, a hen. I am building a coop now (only have the roof, doors, and run to do yet), she is currently staying in our bird room, in a nice sized caged and let out for supervised free range during the day.
Now when I started the coop I was planning on having 5 hens, the city limit. But should I put that on hold and just build her a small coop, with two nesting boxes and a roost with a run? (I live in Nc.)

Absolutely DO NOT BUILD SMALLER COOP.. :lau:lau:lau
Have you heard of chicken MATH... Google it, and read about it.:caf
I like having fun.:love
Remember that having as big as you are able to have means that you do it only once and not have to redo it later. By Spring when chicken fever usually kicks in you will have your 5 limit in my opinion. :hugs
WISHING YOU BEST.....:welcome

Glad you joined us :welcome

Build the BIGGEST you can ;) She needs company and since you are "limited" Chicken Math can't get too bad :lau Not sure how much space you have but the calculation's 4sq ft per bird for in the coop & 10 sq ft per bird in the run, the more room they have, the happier they'll be & so much less problems.
Read up on the POOP BOARD sure is a must have in the coop :love
