One Cornish X chick died

I'm definitely learning that. This is my first year with chickens so I haven't had any experience really. I think I am learning to accept it. I had to cull a chick the other day because it had defects. Usually I have my husband do it but he was at work and I decided it would be terrible to let it suffer to I handled it myself. It wasn't as awful as I thought it would be because I knew what needed to happen and I was the only one there to do it. So I'm now fully aware that there are losses and that bad things happen. I just want to do whatever I can to prevent them.

I lost a 2.5 week old meat chick today. They were all fine this morning when I changed the litter and watered and fed them. About 5 hours later one is dead. The rest seem fine.

Anyone know what the temp should be in the brooder at this age?

I don't worry much about temperature anymore for the broilers. I start them with a heat lamp about 16 inches from the paper for the first week, then raise it a couple of inches every few days until week three, when they go outside.

What is your feeding schedule like? About this age is when you should start to slow them down on feed intake.
