One early spring day...

One early spring day our little family went to a pet store for worms for our Beardie and saw chickens. We fell in love and grabbed one. We knew nothing except that they need a coop and can’t be alone. So we got our brooder set up, got a bunch more chicks, and built a fortress of a coop!
Now, we have 6 chickens around 3 months old and 6 around 1 month old. The older ones live in the coop. They free range and live happily. They are not excited to see six tiny friends in a playpen style run next to their run during the day, but they coexist. The little ones come inside at night or when it is cold or wet outside.
We have lots of breeds... got really excited about different colors and eggs and all the pretty. But that first one from the pet shop seems to be a Silkie! Or at least a mix of Silkie and something else. So, she’s a little different!
I’ve been reading these threads and other chicken raising articles pretty constantly over the last three months and finally got an account. Nice to “meet” you!
