Today, one of my hens laid a teeny tiny egg. It was darker than the usual and 1/4 or less the normal size. I know they lay some weird eggs sometimes but I was wondering if this egg could be fertile and hatch?

Here's a pic of the tiny egg next to the usual size.

Why not give it a run and see. I would just to be curious.

Well, I candled it and there is a yolk. It was laid just today so I wouldn't expect to see much more than that. Will it show more development in a few days if left at room temperature? I really don't have any other eggs to incubate and won't try this one unless there's any chance but I'm curious too.

We call them "egg farts", you could let one slip without even knowing you had it in there;) They aren't completely rare though they usually start a pullets laying career if the shell is even hard enough it gets found. Usually there isn't a yolk, just albumen, kind of a test run for the system. I love to blow them so I can display them.
