one huge black cat

Mountain Lions have been in NH since I was a kid. I am over 50 and still F &G will not confirm they are here, they always give a back handed excuse that it is something other than what it is.
they have fur scat and prints and photos but yet still deny.

I've heard of it, even though I live in the Northwest, I have family in the South. I think it's entirely plausible. Could be a mutant coat varient of a mountain lion, or maybe an ocelot. Could be jaguars really are moving north into the States again. Could be a dumped exotic "pet" that nobody wanted anymore, or a dumped poached animal set for the Black Market fur or pet trade that escaped or was abandoned. You never know.

So if you say you saw it, I see no reason to doubt you.

Same here. I hunted with a guy, and he said he was in the back of his truck eating a sandwich once and a mt. lion came across the road, looked at him and then left. Guess it's a good sign that it seemed shy of him. AR game and fish says that they don't live here. I believe my friend.

I saw a brown cat - like a mountain lion - while deer hunting 6 or 7 years ago here in central Mississippi. MS Game and Fish doesn't officially recognize their presence here. They want more evidence - pictures or tracks or whatever. I had a shot at it but didn't want to kill it. I wish I had my camera at the time. Haven't seen one since that hunt.

You know they never did catch that tiger that escaped at Ft Polk 2 years ago----who knows what all's out there? I saw a black panther years ago up in the woods at a deer camp around Pollock.

I live in St. Tammany Parish and there have been several people who have seen and heard black panthers. We also have seen some large bobcats. So I am sure you probally did see a black panther. We have not had any reports of any livestock being attacked so I hope you won't have a problem with them attacking your chickens.

I'm in Iowa and have never seen a black panther. They say we have had a regular old mountain lion around here (last year) but I didn't see or hear it. I looked up photos of the black panther though and

HOLY COW........If I ever saw one in my yard I don't think I could ever go outside again! What a beautiful but terrifying (to me) animal. Can you say chicken!?!?!

I have to agree. It was well over 100 Lbs. I know I'm bigger than it, but it could easily wound me. To tell the truth, if it shows up here again, the chickens will be the least of my concerns, as much as I like them and have taken so many steps to protect them. My coop is a small fortress, but really I would like my whole yard to be cooped. When I saw it, it was like, I live in Cajun land, not a jungle. I'm supposed to be top of the food chain. I really felt vulnerable walking from my car to the house. As far as it being someone's pet.......I know they have all kinds of people out there, but what kind of person would have a pet that could kill them?
