One less chicken eater! **Kill Pics Included**

Quote:
Wow I couldn't kill a predator unless I caught it in the act. I killed a rat snake that I caught swallowing a baby duck, had this coyote taken some of your chickens? Can it get to them in the coop? I hate coyotes and so does my lab, but I couldn't kill one unless forced to. We have several hawk attacks a year, I try to protect the hens as best I can, but if we loose one, then the hawks deserve it I guess, not much left for them to hunt.

That coyote was about 30 pounds and I would say normal size for a female in this area. A really big male might go to 45-50 pounds.

We have had coyotes right at the back gate a number of times, but I was either not home or when I was I could not find it when I went out hunting it. This is just one little female, theres a whold pack of them to go still. There are a lot of coyotes we I live and not many predator hunters. I have two brothers that live nearby and they both have at least one pack nearby. I don't wait for an attack when they are in season (hunting season). I thought I was doing pretty good trapping the coons. I think I got something like 6-7 this summer. The corn field out back is getting picked clean by them. I am trying to locate some cheap (less than new price anyway) conibear traps. There are small coon trails leading to and from that corn field on 3 sides (one side is a road). Here again there are a lot less coon hunters these days and the multiple quickly. Any way, it's war on vermin until the lakes are frozen and then it's time to fish!

I've been hearing coyotes here around 2 am in our neighborhood. Our neighbor had mentioned he'd lost his whole flock around the time I heard them. I bet that's what got his chickens. Spooky hearing them around 2am! Good job protecting your chickens

My office window looks out on a tree line. We often see coyotes hunting through that area. There are half million dollar houses on the other side and the tree line connects to a golf course. I suspect many pets have come up missing over there. Coyotes are very prevalent in SouthEast Michigan.

Ole and Lena, got your pm and replied back! You have exactly what I am looking for!

This is the best time of year for prime-coat coyotes. We got a pack of 8-10 keeping our lgd busy every night. I put out some traps from a trapper friend of mine and catch some of them suckers cause you cannot get a shot at them. Maybe I even catch 1 or 2 of the wolves that come thru here every couple of weeks and whipe out our deer.

Enjoy your pelt - she's a stunningly beautiful coat.

Thanks to the drive to preserve open spaces here with an over-inflated forest preserve budget, coyote thoroughfares and hunting grounds are growing here in Northern Illinois. Last February, the packs were so numerous and came so close (3/4 of a mile). Thus far, we're safe because of a small river between us and the forest preserve....at least for now - County plans to widen a bridge over said river, I'm afraid it'll make the coyotes more likely to cross it. It's eerie to hear their calls at 2-5am. Makes the skin on my neck crawl, no matter where I am.

We need the large predators - but I do hate the results.
