My broody started hatching Tuesday. I moved her once the first chick was out and dry. I was afraid of ants finding the new chick or the other chickens getting in the nest with her. I moved her to a brooder and placed the other 2 eggs under her. She continued to sit on them while the first chick ran around and explored the brooder . Today all have hatched and she had no issue with me moving her to the brooder while the others hatched. The chicks that were out would eat and scratch around while she stayed with the unhatched eggs. If she gets to hostile I would move her at dark.

thank you. i am going to move her tonight, just to be safe or i won’t sleep tonight worrying about them.

good news we have one out safely, she is still sitting on the other eggs. had a quick peep this morning and the little chick is dark in colour with a white bib. will get some photos when i can.

Yay! She should remain on the other eggs until all have hatched, or at least my hen did.

she is sitting tight i got her off for a little while to show the baby the food and water, she started clucking and pecking the ground to show her what to do and she had a drink, yay all is good so far. the others have not pipped yet, but they went in a day or so later. i am hoping that i will get at least one hen from these little ones.

we have another one, a golden colour, this one is double the size of the black one. one more to go.

nooooooooo i am gutted, my little black chick is dead. the other chicken pulled her under the wire and killed her. we have now put up a double layer so they can’t get near them now. i have another 2 in the incubator due in a couple of days i only hope she will except them. i was so looking forward to seeing this little one grow. i could cry. i feel so sorry for her.

Oh no!!!! I understand your sadness I hate losing any of my birds. Especially when I don't get to see them grow up. Maybe mama will accept the new chicks, I'm sure she will. I keep my mama and chicks separate for the first few weeks.
