Hello. I had 2 ducks, a Runner and a Peking. Last night, my Runner duck, Chumley passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was 10 years old and lived a wonderful life with the Peking, Daisy. They were best friends. How can I help Daisy? She is looking everywhere and quacking loudly. It is heartbreaking to watch. Is there any advice for helping Daisy get through this grieving process? Any advice would be appreciated.

So sorry that you lost Chumley. Good job for giving him a long fulfilling life. :hugs
I don't know much about ducks (not having any myself) but maybe a new friend would help?

I'm very sorry for your and Daisy's loss. I have also lost ducks and the rest of my small flock has grieved. It took months for them to move past the loss of our last duck. :-(

Are you open to getting an adult female duck friend for Daisy? Even two might be best, in case one passes. Where I live there are many ducks at shelters or rescue organizations that need homes. Also you can buy one on craigslist.

Until then I have heard that an unbreakable mirror, or a stuffy can help. I bought a realistic duck stuffy for mine, though, and they didn't care. You can give her lots of treats and bath time, spend time with her if she likes that. Take her foraging, do whatever to distract her, if that works. Distraction did help mine for moments - then they would remember and start calling again.

But probably it is going to take time and more ducks. 3EB6BF2E-0660-4ABF-ADEC-A72E500BDB58.jpeg
