One of my girls ate a frog 😳

@WallyG74, you’ve got scorpions in Mississippi?? Being in Louisiana basically makes me your neighbor...without question, if I run across a scorpion, I will lose whatever ā€œmarblesā€ I have left!!!

They are rare but we have the little buggars here in arkansas. They are generally pretty small here and don't get over 1 or 2 inches long.

My chickens fish almost as well as my ducks do. If they see a fish or frog near the top of the pond they grab it. The pond is a small back yard garden pond and the chickens are not allowed around it without supervision. But they enjoy a good snack from time to time.

Mine ate one also, but I cannot get them interested in mice so far. They don't care for strawberries either, so maybe they're just picky and weird. Maybe the fur tickles their beaks, who knows??? :)

I got a chuckle out of this only because I watched one of mine swallow a small rat whole. I about threw up when I saw the tail go down the hatch last. She was just fine the next day and has been since.

So, I go outside to check on my chickens and here comes one of RIR girls with something large in her mouth, I tiptoe over and lo and behold, its a frog, at least 2" long. She then proceeds to swallow it whole! Do I need to be worried?!
Only if you really, really, really, love frogs! (and only for the frogs)
Chickens are very good at hunting and my girls have many times killed mice, small snakes and probably frogs I just haven't seen them get one. I rather expect they have, there's a thriving population of tree frogs around me.
