I will be honest I am SCARED to let them out while I am gone now, I have kept them in the last 2 days. I don't want anymore coming up missing.

I debated today should I let them out incase she comes home??? what should I do? So if she did come home she did not hang out. I was hoping the same that I would get home, and she would be wondering around wanting into the coup.

I let them all out last night around 5:30 and they stayed right by my side while I fed the other critters, they are acting a bit clingy now, and I noticed that when a big Sand Hill Crane flew over they all RAN very quickly to the coup, which typically they do not do that. So I can not help but think, that MAYBE something happened and they are somewhat affected by it or maybe it is just my imagination going wild now.

I know I was SOOOOO dissapointed when she did not great me last night....

COME HOME GOLDIE>>>>>>>>>>>

I am so sorry christmaschicken about your hen. Like the others, I have had a chicken here and there just go missing. Then a hen would go missing for nightly head count and I'd find parts of her in the yard the next day. There are racoons and possums, an occasional coyote and loose DOGS here which we have talked to animal control about and they don't want to deal with it. So they tell us to shoot it (not the dogs or coyotes) and throw the carcass away with the trash (18 lb limit for discarding carcass with household stuff). I am the scourge of the neighborhood, yelling at owners to keep the dogs on their own property. I will be re-energizing my new zealand hot wire fence as soon as my 2 acre perimeter is cleared (1/2 acre left)

Just found out my icky, "never looked in" 8 x 8 shed I was hoping to clean up and move for a henhouse has RATS! Okay, on to... plan B. But thats beside the point.

For the last 6 years I have trained my chickens to come running when I go Bwaaak! Bwaaak! Bwaaak! over and over. They know there are treats waiting for them. Right now I have 30 chicks which I HOPE can train to do the same thing.

I know that it is so hard to accept a loss such as your hen. I too, hope and pray she has gone broody and in hiding. Or perhaps a neighbor has found her and waiting for a "lost" flyer?

I'm rooting for her safe return. Barb

So sorry she hasn't turned up yet. Have you searched a lot? She may need you to find her, if she's hurt..the passsage of time will not bode well if that's the case....
My worst chicken fear is something like that happening...
