Almost twice the size as normal and just under twice the weight.

On the left 12.5grams and the right, a whopping 22grams! :eek:I couldn't believe the poor girl layed it!

From the Older breeding flock. do you guys think she'll be okay? Shes about a year and a half old i believe.

Im shocked by the size but i hope shes okay. Haha

Ive actually been saving my shells for crafts! And when i blew the egg out, I'm almost certain that there were two yolks in there, although it is possible it was just one massive yolk.

Same bird actually laid another last night that was 19.2grams. I was told this small flock I got was just coturnix quail, but their average egg weight is 12grams. Is it possible these are jumbo ?

What crafts are you going to be making? So far all I've done with mine is put them in large vases for display with a few feathers.

Kind of hard to describe, but it would be like a tiny bird house/coop with a sold bottom back and roof, (maybe a peaked roof) and little posts on the sides. And then sitting in that, some timothy hay, or straw rather (something that will keep for a while) shaped into a nest with a few eggs inside.

I figure it may be a big hit around my town come Easter, haha.

That sounds so cute !

Another 20.56 gram egg a few days ago. Is it normal for regular coturnix to lay eggs that large? (Google has given me an answer, but just wondering what some real world experiences would be) Should I assume this hen has a little Jumbo genetics in her or something? I've been weighing my eggs more frequently since then, and theyre usually around the 12-15 gram mark. After a google search it says average for coturnix is around 8-10grams give or take. What are your real world experiences though? Would you expect eggs around 12-15 grams from your quails, or does that seem to be on the high end, and I should assume these quail hen are jumbos?

I have a hen that did it 3-4 times (even bigger difference than your pic) when she was maturing and then stopped. Also the one prone to egg shell deficiencies even with extra calcium, interestingly, so she got pulled from breeding rotation.

But yes, it is "normal" in that having it happen is nothing to stress about.
