One of my girls layed a massive egg

I can't find a bunch of my photos, but this is one I saw a couple years ago from one of my birds.

Theyre only coming on the rare occasion. Maybe closer to when theyre getting a fresh batch of crushed shell? (I may be guilty of trying to catch them up from the last day that they were low on shell )

Thats when my first one came. About 3 days after adding their shells into their diet. Maybe a response to possibly too much calcium? (Instead of making an overly thick egg, which would only serve to make hatching harder, they process that extra calcium into a bigger shell?)

I also supplement them with extra fine limestone, which they dust bath in, and peck at (limestone is also a calcium source i believe? Correct me if im wrong).

Those are the only things i can think that may be specific to my quail and COULD be causing the occasional larger egg. But i really have no idea. Like coturnix said, its all different shapes, sizes, and colours if you just accept it as the fluke egg, which it just as easily could be.
