One of my hens didn't come out of the coop this morning

Thanks so much for asking. I just posted again. I brought her to the vet Friday. She was eating, drinking, and pooping fairly normally. The vet said she had a cold and gave me an anti inflammatory liquid to shoot into her mouth for 4 days. That was Friday night. She seems a little worse now, which really concerns me. She isn't eating much and only drinking a little and her eyelids are closed a lot. I don't think the vet will be able to see her before Monday afternoon and I'm worried that she won't make it until then or that it will already be too late.

Did your vet put a q-tip or something down her throat to do a swab type test?
What exact medicine did he prescrib

Also did he show you how to put it in her mouth without shooting it down the wrong hole m

The vet told me that. I don't think he did a swab. He prescribed Meloxidyl. (meloxicam) And no, he didn't say anything about the wrong hole. I'm sorry I'm so ignorant.

Unfortunately a lot of vets especially in cities don’t know a lot about treating poultry since they don’t see them very often.

Thanks. She didn't cough or anything when we put the medicine in so hopefully it didn't go down her trachea. But I will make sure tonight to put it in the side. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks. She just ate a few pecks of crumble feed and there were some leafy weeds around (the look kind of like broad leaf parsley) that I know they like and I fed her some of those and she ate them. I don't think they have much nutritional value but it's something.

Yes. I boiled her an egg yesterday and she ate some. Today I boiled her another one and she just peck a little at some yolk.

I don't know if she laid yesterday. She hasn't today. She also hasn't eaten or drunk anything today. It's hard to check one hen's poop. I will try to stay out there and see but there aren't any bloody poops or anything in the run. I did notice that when I checked on her, her back side (sorry, I don't know the right words) / her butt area was going in and out, almost like breathing.

Yes I found that out later. I didn't know that before.
