One of these is a Rooster...

The reason i separate them somewhat:

I have a 10x13 foot Coop (converted shed) and a 120 sq foot run, so hopefully thats enough space. I'm keeping the age groups separate because I'm afraid of aggression. After 4 apparently harmonious days of having the 4 month olds integrated with the 1 years olds, one of the 4 month old silkies (there were 3) got literally pecked to death. Got home from work after a long day and found her dead with a bloodied back, quite a ways away from a bit of blood on the floor - looks like someone cornered her and just went at her, she managed to get away but was just too injured- it was quite shocker to see, and especially for my kiddos to loose one of their silkies so quickly. That was 2 weeks ago. I've now been able to integrate them at night, and during the day when there is more going on, they have a spot to hide where the bigger chickens cant get in. The 2 month olds are in the coop but inside a large rabbit hutch - which they are going to outgrow soon, but since we raised these form birth we are quite attached and afraid of them getting hurt..so we;ve been keeping them in the hutch except for supervised outings in the run. Am I being too paranoid?

What kid of hen is the the one in my profile? I forgot to post that one originally. :) Ironically, she is the one the kids thought looked like a rooster, so her name is Roo!

Thanks everyone! SO helpful! And to think we have two roosters! Licorice crowed right in my face this morning, so there you go - he's only 2 months old!! Never a dull moment - I love them all!

x2 She'll be a nice large white egg layer.

Do all leghorns lay white eggs?

When I picked up my three buff orpingtons, one was a little greyish. Now she is completely white so I don't know what breed she is. I was thinking a white leghorn or a white orpington. If she lays white eggs, should I assume leghorn?

BTW - I love reading all the comments on this thread. Even though these chickens are different then mine it was very helpful and amusing. You all are so knowledgeable. Thanks.

I agree that Honey and Licorice are cockerels. Also, Silkies are hard to sex under 6 months but I'm a bit suspicious about the other one as well. Can you get a head shot of it similar to the photo you posted of Honey?

Both of your silkies look like boys to me....sorry.
I could be wrong about the lighter one, but the darker buff is definitely cockerel looking.
