Hello. I adopted last Friday two Ayam Cemani 8 week old pullets. They were doing okay but two days ago they started to act a bit strange, they were eating and drinking but one specially was constatly fluffed up with her head close to her body, but still moving around. She was dead this morning, no mites, vent looks fine. The other one is exhibiting a similar behavior. I’ve given her electrolites, scrammbled egg and placed her in the sun. Any clue to what could have happened? The breeded says the rest of the flock is fine. I did change their feed suddenly when I brought them home. Could that have been a problem? What could I do to bring the other one back to health, and since she’s by herslef now, should I mix her with the bantams? Or bring her inside for the night? Thank you for your help.

What feed did you change them to? They need to be on medicated chick feed... Young birds are prone to getting coccidiosis and thats what that feed is for. Are they on the ground? (Rather than in like a hutch) Is it hot or humid there? Check the other ones poop and look for blood. Here is a great poop chart to see what might be wrong.

Don't put her with any of your other birds until she is well. Quarantine her. Don't move her around alot. Inside is fine.... Quiet, darker area but you might want some kind of heat as well.... Warming pad, heat lamp, small heater, etc. Don't bug her if you don't have to... It will stress her out. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. She is in a dog crate with roosting bars and mulch on as floor Inside the chicken coop. They have been able to “free range” inside the chicken coop during the day (while the grown hens are out in the yard) I started giving her my layer feed, non-gmo nature crest leyer pellet. I thought they were old enough! Should I change it back, or mix with Medicated chick crumbles? She seems to have normal poop, no blood, just lethargic.

She is not old enough for layer feed. It contains too much calcium and can cause issues. I would switch her back to the chick crumble.

The first thing you need to do is put her back on the medicated chick feed right away, the older birds feed does have too much calcium which can cause death and 8 week old birds can have problems with the pellets, the pellets can be hard for them to swallow... At 3 months I would start regular feed/pellets. Also, do you know the person who you got the birds from? I hate to say this but there are unscrupulous people out there who will sell unwell birds without pause to make a buck.
