one Silken chicken in the winter

I have 25 chickens and one little silken chicken, I live in MN and I'm afraid the silken will freeze because she doesn't roost like the rest of the hens. She is always on the floor of the barn all night by herself. Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping her warm.

Glad you could join the flock! Silkies are known for not being able to fly very high due to their plumage. Could you make her a lower roost? This way she will be off the floor amd free from any drafts. Silkies are also usually at the bottom of the pecking order in mixed flocks so that could be another reason why she is on her own. Maybe the other hens won't let her roost with them?

I haven't had silkies but what Yorkshire coop suggested does make sense. Maybe your silkie would be happier as a house chicken (people do have them).

You have already been given great advice. Some people get sweaters for silkies, but that may cause more discord if she is already being picked on?

My silkies roost. But I had to make some steps for them to get up and down after they got so big. They can jump several inches at a time. Mine jump up to about 24 inches if they have enough room to land. They have always preferred the roost, not the floor. Maybe if you pick your silkie up and place it on the perch it will learn that it can get up there. And provide some "steps" for it. Good luck!
 
If you don't plan to add more silkies, I think she should be a house chicken. You won't pick on her and her personality will have a chance to shine. Please check out "People with housechickens" thread to see how they handle it.
