Yesterday morning, while it was still dark, my DH took our German Shepherd out, and the dog caught a skunk out near the chicken coop, shook it like a rag doll and tossed it into the woods. Of course the dog got sprayed, not alot though which makes me think it was a young skunk. The skunk did not survive the encounter. Do you think this will deter other skunks?

Can't deter them, just trap and dispose.

For cleaning the stench. A small spot on the fur can be done with OxiClean. Make wet and rub the powder onto it. Be aware that Oxiclean gets warm when in contact with water. I've use it on my hands, and again I would only treat small areas.

For the body of the dog and large areas:
1 quart hydrogen peroxide (pharmacy or walmart in the band aid isle)
    1/4 cup baking soda
a few drops of shampoo or liquid soap
    some warm water
Apply onto fur, rinse, and repeat. Works much better then tomato juice.
