I can't believe how quickly these little rascals are growing. They'll be a week old tomorrow, and already they're trying to fly out of their brooder. Ugh..... I don't know what to do. We don't have anywhere to put them until the coop is built, and that's at least 2 weeks out. Their brooder is in the laundry room, surrounded by "stuff" that, if they get out, they can get lost/stuck under. I am NOT looking forward to chasing 5 chicks around in that little 6x6 space full of crap! lol

Amazing how quick lye they grow isn't it! Can you put a screen or a frame with hardware cloth over the top of your brooder to keep the contained?

My girls and maybe one guy ( not sure yet ) are only a week and a half old so i let them out into the run and they realized they had wings. It was over after that. When they can spread their wings, they do and they're all over the place.

Yes, this! This is exactly what happened. Once they went outside into their little "play pen" we set up for them, that was it :D

Our babies are 10 days old. We switched them to a bigger brooder box last night and I had several that almost flew over the side! I am surprised at how quickly they grow! We used a piece of chicken wire and stapled it to some scrap boards to make a lid for the box. We have the brooder on top of our dresser. I am afraid one is going to fly out and it is a pretty big drop to the floor.

You can fashion a quick/easy/cheap "cover" for your brooder - from anything from window screen to poultry netting to any assortment of things depending on the size and shape of your brooder and available materiel.
