Dark binding will give it a beautiful frame. :love

I agree. I love dark bindings. they frame the quilt beautifully and don't show dirt from grubby fingered snugglers.

Then, dark blue binding it is. Grubby fingered snugglers, haha! Yeah, gotta make concessions for those GFS types. I'll have to check quilt shops for the same dark blue or something really close to it. Thousands of Bolts is completely out of that. Guess lots of folks also liked it. I have a small section, a little more than a fat quarter, so not enough to make binding for this entire quilt.

Hey, if you need wide quilt backs (108"), check out Amazon's Fabric.com stuff by Santee Print Works. Maybe not the absolute best fabric, but at muslin prices, you get pretty prints for the backing instead of just tonals, some as low at $8.48/yard with no shipping and if you order 4 of anything, you get another 5% off the total! I just ordered 4 yards of one and 3 yards of another and would have ordered a lot more, but my annual car insurance for both SUVs is due next in June and it will take the entire SS check to pay that. You may be able to get it directly through fabric.com, but I was just on Amazon.

I found something that my Brother 1500 does better than the Janome 7700...go over thick seams without a hitch! The Janome veers off course unless I slow way, way down and even then, it doesn't care for it. I found that out going over the ends of the flying geese blocks while sewing the line of them onto the quilt. I changed to the walking foot, which did help, but it even hangs up on that at times. The Brother, being a semi-industrial machine, just powers right over them with no hiccup! Score one for Brother! I also think it may be due to the way the piecing foot attaches on the Janome, which is super convenient, just snap on and off, so it has more wobble to it. The Brother's feet must be put on with a screwdriver every time but is very stable. Just an assessment for anyone considering the Brother 1500, which is still a powerhouse machine that I really love.

DH is still not feeling well, may have a sinus infection, so a massive headache. My machine table still sits on the deck with the first hole cut into it. Meanwhile, I'm sewing on the final side of the last border on the current quilt. I need something to call it because I think I may sell this one, not gift it. I have a better idea for my SIL's quilt, something along the lines of one giant, super sized quilt block with huge pieces plus borders, for her king size bed.

She is done, all 99" square of her. Here it is and the backing I ordered for just $9.48/yd with no shipping and 5% off of even that. How on earth will I sandwich this quilt? It's huge! But, I measured my Buttercup quilt again that I may do before this one to get used to the Janome with free motion and it's 88x104 so same issue, both really big.

Have you ever seen fabric that is 116" long? I have gotten several short cuts of wide quilt backs, supposedly 108" long each. The main one I'm using when piecing them together for the backing of my Buttercup quilt is much longer than the others, a full 8" longer! I've never seen fabric that long! I thought the others were too short, until I measured them and they're all the 108" except the pretty tan/beige print I"m using for the center strip, the widest strip.
I'm going to use that yard of barn red fabric that I bought awhile back and the pre-wash made it fade badly in strips/stripes. They refunded my money and it doesn't fade anymore, but I can't just waste it and this is my own quilt so it will be one side of the backing, or part of it will.
