Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Well, the cream colored fabric is not to be found, so I measured around the block and figured I had enough of it to make a border if I only did a 1" finished border and pieced strips. Any larger and not enough fabric. This is the result of that. Each side has about 3 strips pieced together, LOL. This stage is 44" square, not easy to find a block that works to go around it so maybe I need to think more along the line of pieced border, not block.

By the way, I talked to thousands of bolts. Apparently, each yard of wide quilt back is "approximately" 2 yards for shipping purposes, actually more like 2.2 yards, so they can bump it up to the next shipping charge level. They have changed their cart so it shows shipping as you add stuff to it, at least, but that bugged me a little bit. They were not all that clear. That means for that extra .2 yard, technically, if you're on the line at 9 yards, it bumps you over to 10, so you'd pay an extra $4 shipping. I decided it was not worth it and I'll wait until their shipping sale, if they ever have one again. Then, they ship whatever you buy for $4.99.

Thinking of another gold border, a 2" maybe, then perhaps black, then I can decide if I'll go further and what kind of quilt/size it will be.

Gold border attached. Taking a break to decide the next step, black or not.

I really like that gold border! Frames it great!

Sorry I have been missing lately, this is my 72 hr week at work and hubbys birthday yesterday, so not much time or concentration level available for computing. I am at work again today, but will try to check in.

That sucks on the shipping charge, wouldn't be so bad if the were just up front about it...hate when a company does stuff like that, seems there is always an excuse to bump charges up, but never the other way around.

Oh, no apologies necessary, Karen. I was sort of hoping that some other folks would also come in and "relieve" you a little, LOL. I appreciate the input. Usually, I make all the decisions myself, but you give me alternatives that I haven't thought of. Maybe my brain is just not 100% in gear after such a long hiatus from quilting, but it helps to have input and other eyes. I have to figure out the next round on that one. The black I have may not be exactly right, but that is another shade I rarely keep much of here. It's a wonder because I like putting black in my quilts for other colors to play off of and to "pop".

I went through TOB's entire green inventory and brown inventory plus the fat quarter/short cuts inventory looking for more of that dark olive with the little gold leaves. I literally went through every page, hundreds, but they don't have it. Shame. If I'd found it, I would have gotten 2-3 yards of it, plus a few more fabrics, just skipped the quilt backs. For backs, I can get a Waverly solid from Walmart at $2.97/yd and piece them, more work, certainly, but might would save a few pennies and the shipping.

With some of the extra half-square triangles and adding a few, I'm making this table topper or lap quilt, not sure which. Just laying out fabrics next to it to see what I want to use after the middle was done.

I'm having a lot of weirdness on the forum, wouldn't let me "like" your posts at the first few tries. Crazy stuff on my computer this a.m. anyway. I'm not going to sweat this one too much, Karen. I'll get out another couple of greens after barn chores and see. Maybe I'll skip it and just put the chicken wire border if I have enough and call it a table topper. I find it funny that I started out making one quilt, ended up with the start of two quilts and a table topper.
I have ideas for my purple and green quilt next, much simpler one. If you have not seen The Midnight Quilt Show with Angela Walters on YouTube, check out the quilts she does. She is a good teacher, very funny lady, too. She's done similar ones to mine in some cases, but she uses a lot of precut charm packs and layer cakes (10" precuts), whereas I rarely buy precuts myself, too expensive generally. She is inspiring me at the moment. She learned to quilt from, of all people, her husband's grandfather, who is gone now. That is so cool, I think.

I found a few fabrics at Walmart, not all for these current projects. Their selection will be better closer to spring, I'm sure. But, I found one brown that may be the solution to the border around the table topper. What do you think? It has a pattern, but it doesn't fight with the middle. I rather like this one.

I got these also, plus a purple I put on my shelf. There is more of the ginger, another one that is sort of paprika colored called Sedona, a print that coordinates with those, plus a paisley that is just beautiful. No idea what I'd do with it, but I love it.
