Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

I like the two lighter colors, can you open a length of them and lay the quilt top overtop of it so you can see the colors run across numerous spaces? It may give you a better 'overall' idea of the visual effect of each color.
With only seeing it against the teal I am leaning towards the bottom pictures color. The darkest color doesn't look right against the reds/roses to my eye, it looks sort of purplish maybe, not sure how to explain what my eye is seeing, it just looks off to me, but I know it can look so different in 'real life' so trust your eye!

Yes, you are right, Karen, the deeper pink is sort of raspberry-ish, more than I thought it would be, very pretty but maybe not for this quilt. Funny how I think I see a color one way but when I see it through the camera lens, it appears a little different, but you are correct in your assessment of the slight purplish tone to it.

So, it will be either the pink floral I had already or the paisley. I'm going to get my DH's opinion on it. He can sometimes see things that I don't. Besides being an artist, he's a man, so that gives another perspective in color.

Glad you have such a great fellow as a partner in your activities! I know you have mentioned his help with the chickens and your quilt colors in the past. He should be able to help figure out the options in no time. :thumbsup

AND,

It's the PAISLEY! After looking at them again, and getting DH's opinion, it's decided. The paisley is just a touch darker than the lighter pink tone on tone floral and when next to the floral in the actual quilt, it won't fade into it. Right away, he said the paisley was the perfect choice, that the raspberry-ish pink messed with the rose colors and just washed it out, that the lighter floral that was used in the quilt was too light to do it justice. I got some gorgeous other fabrics, too, yardage, fat quarters and short cuts (where they do a swatch of fabric that is the entire width of the fabric, but, well, a short cut, like 13" or 11" or whatever).

Yay for paisley! Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

In process of putting in the setting and corner triangles and getting it all together so I can have more of the design wall for the Primitive Hearts quilt, which will be 7x9 rows of 8" blocks. So, what do you think of it now? I still have to decide if it needs a border, what color (teal/turqouise?), and then scrounge for backing and binding. I could just leave it like this and do a teal binding with all the fabrics of those colors use in the quilt sewn end to end to make a binding with more than one fabric.
***no idea why it's so grainy, probably the darkness of the house; we're having thunderstorms.

I think it needs an edge, either the darker red or the darker teal. I think a solid of either color but going with multiple materials/colors would cause it to look too busy instead of looking 'finished'.

You work with the colors a lot more than I ever have though, so try some mixing and matching to see what strikes you as best finish on it.

I was talking about binding with all the teals (closely related ones, not the ones that stand out from the others, though), not the border, so it would only be about 1/2" showing on the front, but that was just a thought. I'm trying not to have to buy more fabric for this one, if I can help it. It does need a darker binding and/or border than the pink that is in the setting triangles, though, I agree. But a border, not sure if it needs an actual border or not. I'll have to mess around with stuff and see. After all, it's not a commissioned quilt, but a gift baby quilt, so I doubt anyone is going to say, "You know, this really screamed for a border", least of all the baby herself, LOL.

Having a border so the corners of the squares don't run into the binding would be good. But I agree that you have freedom to play with it to see how you prefer it!
At least when I get these rows together, I can take it off the wall and not be afraid of it falling on my head. I'll play with it and see what I can come up with. The baby isn't due until May anyway.
