I think my foot is a 1/4". I will be sure to double check. I do have a walking foot too.

I do not have a machine that has a large opening for rolling a quilt into. Depending on how the piecing turns out I may send it out for pretty quilting.

I actually began learning on my little Brother computerized machine with a 5.5" throat space, on smaller quilts anyway. That's why I decided to get Rhonda (my PQ1500s Brother machine) which has a 9" throat space, much better visibility. What I really want is a table to drop her into so there is no arm to get over, just a flat space under the needle.

My machine is a super basic little brother. Straight and zig zag and that's all its got.
That's all you need to get started!
If you don't have a 1/4" foot, you can measure 1/4" to the right of the needle and mark it with painters tape or a stack of post it notes as a guide.

1/4 inch foot is only for piecing when you are doing 1/4 inch seams. If you are working on something like half square triangles and say are sewing a diagonal across a square that you will later cut into tringles you want to use a regular foot.

Hey, I think that is hanging on my wall!

Really? I didn't even remember where it went. Old-timer's Disease!

I use my 1/4" piecing foot for everything, even half-squares. I only use that foot and the quilting foot for absolutely everything. I have a walking foot, but I rarely bring that out. I mark a diagonal line across two squares and then, sew 1/4" on either side of the line, then cut them apart. I never sew actual triangles together if I don't have to, LOL. That brings to mind that I used to use freezer paper templates and cut around every single piece. Now I sew long lines of fabric and cut them apart, if you know what I mean. No more templates! SUCH a time saver!

Yes I bought it from you along with an Attic Windows hanging several years ago.

I use my 1/4' foot for half square triangles too. Super accurate that way and no bias stretch. My grandmothers machine doesn't have but one foot anymore, so I used a template like this. Really helpful. Of course you can spend your entire stash fund on gizmos and gadgets, so be careful!

I remember the Attic Windows, but I think the house fire smoked out some of my brains! I think you bought a couple of other things, too. Oh, do you remember that sweatshirt I made for you with the duck on it? Do you still have it? I used to make a lot of those with other blocks on them.
