Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Karen, hope your sinuses get better. This weather, geez!

I am moving ahead on the scrappy log cabin.

Found this perfect backing fabric at Walmart for the Primitive Hearts quilt-it has all the same colors and is a thick, almost flannel-like cotton...$2.97/yard! I'm happy that Walmart has some nicer quality fabrics now, but you are definitely limited on selection as everything at Walmart is "seasonal".

little Primitive Hearts quilt is bordered and ready to sandwich. I'm considering giving this one as the gift to my new grandniece rather than the rose and teal half-log cabin one. I like this one. And I love the rabbit print on the back, too. Pre-quilting, it measures about 51" x 57", perhaps a little smaller than the other one. I posted the other one next to it so you could see them side by side. I think the hearts one is more whimsical.

I got the log cabin lap quilt blocks put together. I've never done one where you didn't cut every log precisely, just used strips from the scrap tubs. It makes it very country and a tad wonky, not so perfect. I like the result, but some folks would think I have crooked vision, LOL. I may put a dark green border on it since the greens used are on the inside, none will border the border, if you know what I mean.
I want to do another half log cabin but use a straight arrangement so it looks like an attic windows pattern.

Cynthia, I really like tha rabbit fabric as backing for the heart quilt...and very whimsical, I think it would be wonderful for your niece!

The colors on your new scrap quilt are very bold and I think a dark green or a rich brown would both work nicely with it. It will be a very striking and appealing quilt...I don't think a bit of 'wonkiness' will be an issue at all, if anything it will add another layer of uniqueness to the quilt.

Thanks, Karen. I am really liking the little hearts-and-rabbits quilt for my new grandniece better than the one I originally did for her, which I feel has a little more sophistication. Whimsy for a baby is good!

Agreed on either dark green or a deep, rich brown for the other one. I know I have some super dark green fabric, not sure on the brown, which is an area where I'm a bit depleted right now, at least as far as having enough to do that particular job.

Sounds like a great reason to shop for more fabric! :gig

As if I needed one, LOL.

My first grandniece, big sister to the expected new baby, with her own quilt about a year ago. She's such a beautiful child, isn't she?

And how fast they grow...how Elena looks now, with her mom.
