I played with it and made this, will be 17.5" finished block. Not sure what the heck to do with it, but at least, all that stuff isn't in the trash.

Have you decided yet? I think its pretty.

This is the grouping I put together. Not sure on all the colors but its a start.
I also have several yards of plain black for the backing and maybe sashing. I am undecided if it should be black or white.
Just a starter quilt in a signature pattern.

I am way to cheap to buy all the charm packs and jelly rolls.

Funny, I had just posted a picture of the finished block and didn't hit submit! I just did that, good grief. No, haven't decided yet.

I have that exact same purple fabric. In fact, it was the backing of my watercolor quilt I made for my friend, Ellie, in CA! I was just digging out scraps and still have some.

I'm with you, I don't buy those precuts. I like them, don't get me wrong and some nice lady (TERRIE!)sent me some a couple of times, easy peasy to use, right? But, I never buy them for myself when I calculate the expense per yard compared to just buying yardage.

I can't say about the black or white on the backing. I just rarely use white on anything. I think those colors will do fine that you have laid out there.

I think my biggest fear is getting the colors wrong.

I have 3 more cushion covers to make before I can start the quilt.

I will certainly post as I get it going.

Unless ya'll get tired of all my questions. ;)

Nobody will get tired of your questions, ask away! Two of your fabrics are directional, meaning they are more of a stripe effect than an all-over pattern. I'm sure you realize that. It sometimes makes a challenge when you go to cut pieces and put them together, is all.

I did notice that about those 2. It kind of bums me out since some of the quilt patterns won't work or there will be unwanted waste.
I am still not sold on those fabrics. I could find different prints for those.
I bought a half yard extra in those. If I hate them for quilting I can always use them for backing on a child's quilt is my thinking.

Either black or white for sashing would be stunning. :)

I've always loved the look of it, but I think it has curved piecing, if I'm not mistaken. I don't usually do curved piecing, which is why I've never done a wedding ring quilt. What I like about the Giant Dahlia is that it is not a lot of repetitive block-making. It's one giant block, basically.
Cyn, I don't think that is curved piecing. I think it is like the Tennessee Waltz I did. I think it's clever use of angles.

I dunno, T. I was trying to find a pattern online and folks kept saying it was so challenging. I think you use templates, too, so I'll have to keep looking for a pattern for it to show here. I love the look of the Giant Dahlia, but if it's too complicated, I'd hesitate to possibly ruin all that gorgeous fabric with my lame attempt!

I love the design! the color placement adds depth to the quilt and a some optical illusions.
Thanks! Means a lot coming from a seasoned quilter!

I did find a tutorial, but find some of it a bit confusing, and it is curved, ack! Looks like she's using my machine, too.(She says later it's the Juki version of my Brother, same machine, really)

Part 2

Here is one from Pinterest in my greens/purples. I wish I could do it, but I have not seen the template yet. When I do, I'll post a pic of it. It's on the web somewhere!

Oh bother! Well, they are quite gentle curves. I would love to do one some day.

I have that machine as well. It's a TL98E instead of TL98Q so it's a slightly older version, but what a powerhouse! I love it for sewing on bindings and doing strip piecing.
Mine is in the shop right now having a Spa Day and getting a good cleaning and hopefully I will have it back this next week.
