Mock-up in place. I could do the corners in the other blue if it would look better and not use more of the dark blue at all (that is so pretty, wish I'd gotten another yard of it).

I like this one much better! Though if it is easy enough you should play with your choice of fabrics to see if your other thought translates as well when used. Never hurts to experiment.

Yes, I don't think it was the color alone which seemed too stark, I think a full square with no movement just didn't match the flow of the rest of the border created a 'stop sign' for the eye, as you described it.

I looked again, definitely try the other blue... have you decided on the outer border yet? You may use one blue for the corners and the other as a piping type accent as a border, material yardage may be a deciding factor. I love both of the blues, so either would work, I think.

Perfect sense.

I decided on the dark blue for the corners of the square in a square partly, because I don't have enough of it to do an entire border, the quilt is so large now. I do have a good bit left of the other blue color so I held it up to substitute in the corner, but I liked the darker one better here-I like how it anchors onto the dark blue border at the corner. Sort of hooks onto it and swings you down from the dark blue round to the corners, if you know what I mean. As Angela Walters always says, I am the expert of my own opinion, LOL. And I would add to that, sometimes, I can express it as only I can understand it, haha!

I understand what you mean, and it makes sense when following the progression from center out.

I often hesitate to offer too much opinion, sort of like being an 'armchair quarterback' when you are the one doing the work... and I can't offer anything on the methodology or equipment side, but I hope you don't mind the occasional requests for different colors or layouts. It doesn't seem fair for me to request you end up doing even more, lol.

As long as you don't mind if I completely ignore what you say, haha! Actually, I like input. It does help me either change my mind about something or cement what I already feel is the way to go. Really, either blue would work, not a really wrong choice. That's what's great about quilting. And at times a choice is made for you if that's what you have to work with, as we know.

Me, too. Wish I could have found more of those fabrics at the time. I left out one fabric that said to me more country than this mood here. It was the right blue, but the pattern just didn't work for me.
