Today DH decided to help get some stuff done around here! We loaded the mini coop up on the Mule and I drove while he held it in place. We wrestled it over near the Polish run, then moved the run around so the door was facing the way I wanted it. I sent him to go find branches for perches. I painted the plywood for the roof, and after chores were done, I nailed it on in the dark . Always interesting to hammer after dark. I had let the polish out to run around while we were working. Naturally , none of them returned to the run. So I had to go round them up. How I got so many males, I do not know. Must be the hatchery was trying to get rid of them. DH put the window in and hung the door. I also screwed boards on where the nest boxes will go, so the coop is secure until I get that built. I hammered staples in to keep the wire in place on the open area of the door. We attached a board to hang the feeder from, as well as the waterer. So the perches got installed, and the roof nailed on. We are good for the night! I still need to put the chicken wire on two sides, so far it has only welded wire. And the apron to prevent digging. Oh yes, I tied down the tarp over the run, so it is shady for them. Plus I nailed the roof on the other coop, so progress is being made.
The new dog, Queenie is missing today so I don't know if she ran away, got run over, or shot or what. I looked and called , but no dog. :-(

Nice award, hot. I went to the fair last night the chickens where so-so but the grand champ was a huge light sussex roo that was owned by a 8 year old boy who got 1,100 bucks premium.I went to the chicken sale today and did't buy anything or sell anything but had a good time with my friends.Cool weather is coming tomorrowand next week ,good coop building weather!!!

My big dog use to roam off all the time, but always show up. Wow, you guys got a lot done today!! I'm hopeing to finnish the big roof in the next two days.

I have been thinking I need to build a rooster pen for all these extra roos. And I need to go to a sale and get rid of some more chickens. Somehow they keep building up! Gee whiz, I just stuck another 4 dozen eggs in the Bator and there is only room for one more tray already! How did that happen?
So I hadn't seen the barn cat or her kitten in a while and was wondering about them. Then last night I was closing up the barn and they were up in the hay loft! I had put their dish of food up there during the day so the dogs wouldn't eat it. I was glad , because now I know they can get up there, I will just leave the food there.
Tomorrow I hope to work on the big coop to try and get the sides done and the door put on. If I get really lucky, I will start on the runs for that coop.

I just watched the live feed of burning man out there in Nevada. This year 50,000 hippies and other odd people where there to watch him burn. It's like looking in at a alien planet. Looks like fun ,but the temp is way over a 100 and they had 2 big dust storms this week.Their was a dust devil next to the burning man and it looked like a tornado----cool man---

Started painting 2x4s today, and dragged the plywood into the garage. It is trying to rain out there, at last! Finally two of the little youngsters made their way back into their shelter! But I had to go get the rest of them and put them away so they would not get soaked. It is markedly cooler out there.
I did get both of the doors on the new big coop! And the pieces of plywood on both ends, so things are looking good. Needs one small piece next to the nest box. And I need to install a divider in the nest box as well as the coop. But I did not get the pen started because it was sprinkling most of the day and I didn't want the hay in the Mule to get all wet while I was working in there.
Happily I had a guy call who wants 100 chicks, so the fact that my Bator is filling up is a good thing.:)

All right! I got the inside of the coop painted today. Put some trim boards on to cover gaps, put the divider in, the last piece on the front. Put the latches on the doors. So it is really shaping up. Now I need to build the runs.
The dog, Queenie, showed up and acted like someone had been hitting her. She needs to learn to stay home. Of course, she won't stay inside the fence. I got a few pics of her and some of the goats and chickens today.
Our weather dipped 20 degrees, and it was cloudy and drizzly all day. Good weather for building.
