Hello, I have 6 white crested ducks that are almost 12 weeks old. Only 2 are quacking, and very loudly I might add. Is there a strong chance that the rest are Drake's? I'm hoping it's not the case. I'd have to get rid of them right?

Also, they are all shedding lots of small feathers. Is that normal?

hi, no you don’t have to get rid of the drakes! find the two girls a nice home, since more people will want girls as pets. sadly some people like to kill male ducks.

if you keep just the four boys, they’ll do great as a bachelor flock!

Small feathers shedding is normal on the way to maturity as they replace baby feathers into adult plumage.

In addition to the the raspy voices drakes get.. they also get a curled tail in the breed being discussed.

What do the ones that aren't quacking sound like?
Shedding small feathers could be the start of a molt. My ducks started molting around that age.
Mostly it's a squeaky peep sound. Sometimes it reminds me of a puppy whining. Especially when they're fighting over treats😂. A couple of them I think are starting to have a very soft raspy peep. Like it's just developing. It's so hard to hear them because of the 2 loud quackers.

Some take longer to stop peeping and start quwaking. Males sound like they have a dry throat when they quack. You can try to keep a male with 2 hens, jusy watch for over breeding
So females can be late quackers then just as much as males?
