Only one chick hatched

I already read that you should not buy eggs on line and ship them, but I did and only 1 egg hatched. My question is, will a brooder keep one chick warm enough or should I use a heat lamp? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Unless you have another heat source in your brooder, then yes, you’ll need to use a heat lamp for your chick. Your chick will benefit from some friends too. But a plush teddy should keep him company for a short while.

No, I have a heating plate, just didn’t know if that was warm enough. I am trying to find a place that has chicks So I can buy a couple more. So far, no luck they go very quickly.

A heat plate is fine. Probably more comforting actually. Hope you get some chicks but don’t stress if you can’t just yet.

When I had one only hatch, I got a companion chick at the local feed store. TSC and feed stores are good sources. Good luck with your quest.
