Lost a 1 1/2 month old chick today to a raccoon (the black one). I had 2 (3 before I lost one to coccidiosis) chicks and now I have just the one. Should I get another 2 chicks from the same age? I read it's a good idea but also read it might just add more stress to my already traumatized chick! What is the best option? I'll be getting chicks from the same flock I got them from. Should I get more chicks? Any tips on how to ease chick? Help please!

Get him some siblings as soon as possible. Get some around the same age and size to help them get along better. In the meantime give him a mirror to keep him company. It is only a temporary fix whilst you get him some more friends. Also before you get more chicks make sure your coop is secure and that nothing is going to get in, after all there is no point getting more chicks if you’ll just lose them to predators.

Thank you for replying. I'll be getting more chicks asap! And fixing up the coop too!! Hopefully I dont lose anymore of my babies! It's been tough losing 2 so I hope I can prevent any losses in the future.

For future readers.

After a few days to a week I noticed my chick happier. I gave them a bit more treats than usual so they can stay cheery, I'm not gonna lie XD. It's been a full month now and I can say both my chicks love eachother.

I quickly went for a new chick, the sister of the chick that passed away, the morning after that horrible night. And I am very glad I did. Thank you all for the help and advice :)
