our hen just hatched a chick, but only one hatched. I checked the other 8 eggs and they were all off with no growth what so ever inside!

I know that the eggs all came from the same hen, so why is only one egg fertile? I thought the cockerel would keep her fertilised for a whole batch.....but he had fun with her several times a day, every day!

    Any thoughts?

Hmmmm.............. That's odd. Maybe the other eggs were too cold. Or maybe the egg that hatched was the last one to be layed, meaning she started to set then on the eggs after the last one was layed so it got a head start. There are so many things that can go wrong! Did you crack them open?
