I have been raising Muscovy for several years, and decided to add Mandrains. We got eggs online, and used a chicken to sit on the eggs. Yesterday, one hatched, and I have no others that seem to be attempting to exit the egg. What on earth do I do with one Mandrain? She just laid under the heat lamp and hardly moved or tried to get up. I put it in my shirt next to my body when I went check on the remaining eggs, and when this duckling heard the sound of the hen, it perked up, tried to get out of my shirt and hasn't shut up since....keeps up the peep peep peed, looking for mom. I don't want it to be a one and only lonely duckling.
What next??? HELP

Can you put a stuffed animal in the brooder with it for the time being? Most precocial birds have the desire to huddle with their siblings or burrow themselves under Momma right after hatching. Otherwise, they'll peep. Can you maybe look for some mallard ducklings? Look on craigslist for newly hatched ducklings. By fall, you'll be able to find some adult mandarins for sale to add with your lonely duck.
