Only One Left

I think we are done having chickens. Today the neighbors invisible fence malfunctioned and their dogs attacked my remaining two chickens. One is severely wounded, she is resting in the coop, but probably won't make it through the night and the other was scared off and I doubt she will be back. It was fun having chickens, but very stressful. There are too many creatures that want to kill them. I thought the cold would be their downfall, but they handled the cold weather just fine.

I’m so sorry. Sorry for the whole situation. I can understand how disheartening it must be. I’m constantly adding to or improving how I keep my chickens but nothing is 100% I know how it feels to stress. Again so sorry.

So sorry to here this. I hope this does not happen to my chickens (when I get them.) They will not be free ranging.

Thanks. I did develop a new appreciation for chickens and it was a positive experience even though we are sad now. It is hard to free range chickens. The poor creatures have too many enemies.

It’s a challenge for sure I free range mine so I’m aware of the risks. I get so infuriated  when I hear about irresponsible dog owners ~ dogs killing chickens. The sad but TRUE fact is that they are the #1 killer of chickens. I mean come on now~chickens can survive a lot of things but how do they protect themselves from inconsiderate pet owners?Perhaps in the future you might reconsider who knows. True story... my friend who gave me my first chickens is calling it quits. After he had his flock wiped out TWICE by dogs... different dogs because he shot the killers. It’s just sad.
Who knows what the future holds? Never say never ya know? Best wishes

:hugs Sorry to hear about your remaining chickens :hugs I understand your feelings and it's your feelings now. Give yourself time to heal, I've said "never" several times only to start over. Perhaps consider keeping them confined instead of free ranging. I know free ranging is fun but I've learned confined is just a good and they are fine.

I keep only 4BO in a 8 x 12 x 7 Chicken House, confined. They don't seem to mind .... I forgot to latch the door once & they got out. The look on their faces :gig they were so in awe and quickly went back to their CH when I called them.
