only the good die young... a warning about chicken-sitting.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I know what you mean about "that special chicken", as I've grown very attached to one of mine in particular. Poor girl has been having crop issues and is so small compared to the rest of them, she looks like she's 1 month old and she's actually 3 months old!

I have spent so much time nursing her, I hate to think of losing her!

I'm scared to think about leaving my chickens OR my dogs in someone else's care. Again, sorry for your loss, and I hope things turn around for you soon with all of the problems on your farm.

Farmergal,

Say what you need to say, we are listening as you express your feelings about losing your beloved young bird/friend Tux.

Thanks for the chicken-pet-sitting warning. I will keep that in mind when I take my next vacation.

oh, my heart breaks for you... The sense of loss is gut-wrenching, and greater still is the sense of betrayal by the people whom you trusted to care for your babies in your absence, plus the fact that they were being well compensated for their responsibilities, which (IMO) they seem to have taken far too lightly. My DH would love to do much more traveling, but this is the very reason I am so reluctant to do so. I have a couple of good friends who will do an excellent job taking care of my vast menagerie, but I don't like to take them for granted because I know they have many responsibilities of their own. This fall we have an out of town event happening, and I'm entrusting my dear niece to stay here and keep things going in my absence. I, too, ALWAYS leave a detailed chore list, a detailed chicken head count and feed/water/egg gather/hiding place

list, along with a list of emergency contact #s, veterinarian in priority red! I know accidents happen, and I've had a few happen while I was here, so I know how it goes, but it is a horrible feeling when you've trusted someone to take care of your pets and they've let you down... I hope one day your memories of Tux will bring you smiles only...

Oh my gosh! farmergal I am sooooooooooo sorry about all your losses and bad luck it must be so awful for you! I am soooooo sorry! And you trusted those people to take care of your babies and paid them $50 and they let you down, how awful!

they should have done a better job, but at least your guineas fought for Tux. That is so sad.

R.I.P Tux I am so sorry. This is a real tear jerker, I am almost about ready to cry/burst into tears for you just because it is sooooooooo sad and you lost your best friend, and I love animals so that makes it even sadder. I am so sorry. They should've taken care of your babies better, exspecially at $50, but if it was me I would probably just do a better job/do it for free or real cheap just because I love animals so much. They obviously don't love animals very much and did not take the job seriously at all.

I have a dog, a cat, a parakeet, and a rabbit. And the dog is getting old, he's 13, and so it's sad. Also I remember when I lost my other pets (I have had other parakeets, goldfish/fish, hermit crabs, my other dog, etc.) so I know how you feel and it is an awful feeling.
