Ontario??

Hey guys!

I'm in Foxboro, just north of Belleville... just moved here from Ottawa and JUST got the ok from the township for livestock, totally looking forward to getting my birds (chickens and ducks) in the spring (although I'm tempted to start this fall is I can get the coop fixed up on time)

glad to see there are other members in the province.. woohoo!

I need suggestions on cold hardy chickens and ducks, I don't want my flock to freeze! Our coop will be off the grid, no power supply in sight. I've worked out how to keep them warm enough, now trying to figure out how to keep the water from freezing throughout January and February without having a power supply :/
Is refilling it manually several time a day the only way to go?

Hi all,
I'm from the Kingston area (Sydenham). Got my first 10 month old chickens Nov 25 (Kijiji). Got a second hand coop the same day also from Kijiji. Both are setup in our hoop house. Recently got a second hand incubator (kijiji, again) and am ready to start incubating. Have plans in the works to either borrow a rooster or get some fertile eggs from a neighbour. Looking forward to hatching our very first chicks this winter and showing our kids "how it's done".

Hello!!
I'm from Lyndhurst, Ontario. My farm is Swiftwind Farms. We are primarily cash crop and hay producers. I wanted chickens so this is a new venture for us. I looking to meeting new people and enjoying this forum.

Hey all,
Im from California Ontario which is in the rideau lakes area.
Would love to meet new people from this site. I'm new to all this and am learning so much.

I'm in north muskoka, ontario. We got 6 buff orpington chicks from a lady on kijiji who gets them from performance poultry. So far so good! Has anyone else got buffs from them? I would love to see some pics. Our township is super picky when it comes to keeping chicks. You must have at least 4.9 acres and be zoned rural. Lucky for us we meet those requirements! It's funny tho because we got our chickens before we checked that out haha. Does everyone in ontario insulate their coops?

I am building mine now and I am insulating it. It gets pretty cold here. ( Peterborough area). I figure, why not! Looking hard for day old Buffs in July. Any ideas?

Check kijiji. It seems that all the buff breeders are down south. There is a lady in Sudbury that will sell buff pullets not sue about day olds. It's frustrating!!! Are you going to use a heat lamp? Or just insulate? Also it can't hurt to give performance poultry a call the might still have some chicks!
