Long ago, before my backyard fences were removed -- the real estate loves the emus/I bribed them with red wine -- Eric's chicks would occasionally get a fence between them and their Dad.

It was heartbreaking to watch their panic mount. They'd headbutt the fence. You can't rush in and rescue them -- 'cause they're wild, not tame.

This is the reason I taught them the sound of their dinner plate, which is one thing that gets them to calm down and move towards you (away from the fence).

They are growing. Adams leg scabbed over and healed, it has new feather growth. His legs are not any better and he seems stunted compared to his brother Ken. The girls are doing good, Buckeye is still boss and Barbie is still the clumsy bird that trips over air.
