A personal apology is probably best ... then ask if they'd like a cooked meal after a long road trip to make up for it. This will give you a chance to get a "feel" for how your new neighbors are.

I hadn't expected so many responses. Thanks for the support in my hour of humiliation.

I think I am going to go with the "I'm a doof" chocolate chip cookies. They will have to wait until later though because......I am out of eggs.

My 16 y/o old (city raised) daughter woke up during the excitement this morning. She had her nose stuck to the window the whole time the police were there. When they left she said, "Thanks mom. You wake me up this early and I didn't even get to see any good police action!"
