Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

I'm amazed that some people belive all animation is for kids.

Also, I love the duckies!

Back from a weekend at my parents. Whew. It was good to go but also good to be home!
Of the chick that we hatching through a few days last week, I ended up with 14. One that I had to help out just as we were going to leave. But he made it!! (He was too big to get out himself.)
Hope everyone had a good weekend.

After a reasonably productive day of swatting mosquitos and gnats, I have finally settled in for the evening. Actually sprang for a spiral sliced ham this time, and it is delicious. Sweet potatoes are probably one of my all time favorite foods, and fresh asparagus in always good. Hope everyone enjoyed the day, seems like weather was pretty good to all of us. We got to 85F, which was a bit hot since the humidity is climbing steadily now.

DH has gotten a lot of seeds in, and some pepper starts planted. A little late, but he has really made it happen overnight! I keep saying "light duty, dear" and he nods and goes off to hard labor again.

Opa, love the waggly duck! My 4 are now 3 weeks old and spending more time swimming. It's a shallow container, but to them it's a huge pond! Just starting to get some wing feathers!

PK. I like the animation from when I was a kid, I have nothing against the much newer anime but usually I just don't get it! I always enjoy your avatars!

Mags, Congrats on the 14,

Getting home is the best part of any trip to me!

Hi everybody,
frow.gif
Hope everyone had a lovely Sunday, whether it was an Easter Sunday or not. Tomorrow we all face another Monday, may it be happy and filled with joy for all.

Good VERY early morning everyone Insomnia is for the young-UGH! Gets worse the older I get.
Maggie so glad you had a good weekend with your family. Congrats on all those new babies you've hatched. I should be setting eggs on Wednesday and I just bid on some BBS Sumatra eggs

. I have no idea what I'm thinking! I had meant to tell you that I had treated all of my birds with Corid and we don't eat/hatch anything for 2 weeks after treatment of any kind-that's why I haven't sent you any Sumatra eggs. They should be clear this week.
Sally love your wrens. They can be noisy, but I do love them. Wherever they decide to build a nest, we always do our best to protect them. Sounds like your ducks are doing well-can't wait til mine hatch(if they even do).
I guess we will try to get all of our stuff planted on the 16th or 17th-according to the Almanac, that's when we're supposed to plant.
My poor little single chick is amazingly messy for being by herself. It is time for her to go out to the big brooder, but I just can't put her out there alone-guess I will try to find a single chick somewhere.

Hope everyone had a good Easter.

I just came in from shopping for plastic Easter eggs and candy. Bought 10 dozen of the hinged fillable eggs and a bunch of candy and gum. Everything was half off and the number of people stocking up was amazing. I wanted to get this for our Chickenstock in June. I thought it might be nice to have an egg hunt for the little kids. Depending upon what else I find today will determine just what I wind up putting in them. Granny is putting candy and gum in the ones I have and I may place a ticket in a few that they can bring to me for a large item.

As far as the sumatras, whenever you can is fine with me.
I will have to take a pic of the little Lakenvelders for you. They are in with a mixed up bunch of chicks but sure is a colorful group.

When I woke up this morning I had baby quail hatching, mostly tuxedo coturnix, they are really interesting looking from other quail I have hatched. Bobwhites are still "cooking".
I will be on and off here throughout the day, probably not a whole lot. It takes a while to recover from family, lol.
Everyone here have a great day!

Opa I'll do it! I'm anxious to see what will be in there! Bet it'll be something wonderful(although absolutely not necessary, but very thoughtful of you). Great idea for the leftover Easter stuff to use at ya'lls chicken stock. We can't seem to get one together here in Texas. Such a bit state that there is no real central location convenient for most of us.
Maggie are your Pilgrim goose eggs still looking OK or have you candled yet?
Well, guess I'll go get ready to move the Pyncheons into their new hutch. DH built it for me so I can get them out of the brooder and they can enjoy the great outdoors. They are hystrical to watch. Cutest little things I've ever had.

ETA: I have a quick question for anyone that might know: The last few days(and nights) all of the animals around here have been acting very strangely(jumpy, nervous, loud) including all of the dogs in the area, the neighbors horses, everyones' chickens, my neighbor even said his cat won't go outside the last few days. DH seems to think they all sense a predator-could that be the case? Thanks for any input you might have.

Hi, ever-bodies!

I've been pretty busy, and haven't been able to check in. Can't remember who, but someone asked for pictures of my duckie babies. I just uploaded a few, so here goes:

These little ones are the seven out of my eight 'test batch'. The paid-for ones are due to hatch in a couple of days (about 20 or so-can't remember). Wish me luck! In the meantime, these seven are keeping us giggling-they're too funny!

My little boy in on Spring Break this week, and we went to Home Depot earlier to get some herbs and flowers. Hubby tilled me a spot by the patio so that I can have easy access to herbs and such when I want them. I'm going out now to plant with my little boy.

Edited to fix a type-o.

Sheila...are you in a pretty isolated area? There arent too many predators that would have everything jumpy.
You would probably just laugh but the only times we have had that happen is when the "mystery predator" is around. Well, actually not such a mystery but people always laugh if you talk about it. Though with the experiences myself and many of the family have had, not too much laughing here.

Even when there has been a big cat or bear in this area, it hasnt affected all the animals that way.
You can google your county on the BFRO site and see if there are any sightings ever in your area.
As far as the goose eggs, look good so far. They are due the end of the month.
