Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

The holidays of course! Means I don't have to get up early!

Hi PK, glad to hear your running for office!

MamaG, I know you and your Mom will be happy when she gets home.

Fairybee Nat, good to see you again!

Katy, I couldn't believe it when I saw those crates. And they were so pleasant about helping me load them. Very nice family business.

I *might* be loading the incubator in the next few days. My main and only Delaware Blue Hen rooster, MacLeod, died today. I've gone over all the details with quite a few very knowledgeable chicken people and the cause is unknown. I want another splash roo, but it's going to cost me!

The big debates are:

If I hatch his eggs, what am I to do with the roosters? I am the original rooster magnet,

(I already have 4 other roosters I need to find homes for)

I'll need more runs. They cost money.

Do I really want a brooder full of chicks in the house again?

No guarantee I'll get another splash roo in the bunch either. And no guarantee he'll be as good natured as Mac. Mac's brother was a nightmarishly mean rooster.

And so on. What do ya'll think?

for the holidays or for school to start up?

Question then- how long are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter breaks then?

Very interesting on the differences!

The Grand Rapids school district in MI does school year round with extended break in the summer, July is off. Lots of immigrants and refugee's so they don't take a long summer break to help the kids with English and other subjects (per my old neighbor who works in the schools there)

Opa's chicks are really cute!!!! I stopped by last night and saw them hatching

Sure doesn't pay to not check in here for a couple days....Ranchie...great score...so jealous!! Opa congrats on the new little ones...hope chickenstock is great for all of you. School has been out here for a couple weeks and they go back in the middle of August, my daughter teaches summer school, so she's still working for a few weeks.

Hubby and I slipped off and went fishing Tuesday and we sure enjoyed that. Yesterday was pay the bills day and run around, pick up our raw milk...whole day out and about. Momma is hurting this morning, arthritis in her back, hoping she feels better in a day or two.......warm and muggy here this morning with a chance of storms again today, cabbage is making nicely and I see coleslaw and hopefully sauerkraut in our future!! Haven't had much luck making sauerkraut since our crock was broken, so going to try and make it in the jars this year.

Here's hoping you all have a peaceful and prosperous day!

In my town we go back to school the last week in August. We were supposed to get out on the 16th of June, but we will not get out until Monday the 21st because of snow days. I remember the good old days when school would not start until the Tuesday after Labor Day and still get out the middle of June. I think maybe we have more days off during the school year than we used to, and that makes us go longer.

PK what is the Crazy Pullets summer leader? If it is something good....Congratulations!

Still really wet and cold here. My 12 year old is home sick today, so I am taking the day off to baby him:/. He is already driving me bananas!

We have all been sick this week except for DH, the baby even had croup during the night one nightand I had to take him to the emergency room. I am feeling much better now, except for having a 12 year old big baby on my hands. I tell you, when this child is sick, he acts like a 2 year old!
