Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Been busy working on that 100 year old house and then had problems with my modem and was unable to get unline. Then to compound matters, Hope's stepdad wound up in the hospital so we've been spending just about all of our time there. Finally found time to get the modem fixed so here I am.

Sure has been extraordinarily windy here for the last several days and the wind brought cooler temperatures with it. Yesterday it never made it out of the 40s.

Of course in difficult to tell just how large the hawk in the Thistle's picture is, it does look much larger than what we call sparrow hawks or kestrels here.

Sam - Sorry about your chickens. Hawks can be the hardest to protect your flock from. They are the ultimate dive bomber. Where are you.?.. Did you take off for that trip with Granny without telling us.?.. Or did you get arrested for shooting that hawk.?.. All raptors are protected by federal law...

Pati - Include me in your support group. Medical problems are so trying, sometimes. I'll pray for you in my own way.

Ranchie - I'll tell you what a cute chick you have. Since HE is a Columbian, does he peep in spanish.?.. Here's pulling for your next brood. Hope you have a good hatch. I love the monkey, too.

PK - Hello girl. How's your schooling going.?..

Highlander -What can I say.?.. Love the chocolates. The other ones are beautiful also. Too bad importing has become such a hassle. You could keep real busy sending some of those over here. ( keep the sparrowhawk, we have our own.)...

To everyone I missed, and I know there are a lot of you. - Hello and best wishes....

Sorry Sam. I didn't see your post ahead of me. You must have posted while I was typing. I'm not exactly the fastest on this keyboard. In fact, I may be one of the slowest in the world, but remember, I warned you guys when I first entered this group. Sorry about that...

Hello Viejo. School is going well, I'll be finished with a bunch of my books by the time Christmas rolls around, which will be nice. I'm somewhat stressing for SATs, but I think I'll do fine on them.

Thanks. Actually, I have a year or so until I take them. I just stress a lot. Again, thanks.

I've being spending a lot of time at the hospital with Hope's stepdad John, and one positive aspect of the situation is that I've been able to read more than usual. I'm currently on the second book of a trilogy written by Stieg Larsson. The first was "the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The second "The Girl Who Played With Fire" I've almost finished, and I have the third book "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest" is in the book bag that I keep in my truck. While it isn't a series that would be appropriate for our darlin' Sprite, I do recommend them to everyone else.

Just when I think life couldn't get more complicated it does. Yesterday we were at the hospital most of the day and finally decided to go home about 4pm. The hospital where John was at is located about 35 miles from our home. We arrived home, Hope went to take care of one of her house cleaning jobs and I went out to do a little shopping. When I got back home I went directly to check on the birds. When I finally came in the house, John was sitting at the table talking with Granny. Evidently he decided he didn't like the treatment he was receiving so he got dressed and left the hospital. He hitchhiked home. His demeanor was somewhat disoriented and irrational. I finally was able to convince him to allow me to take him back to the hospital so it was 10pm before I got back home. This time we brought all of his clothes home with us so it should make it more difficult for him to try and leave again. I sure hope that they can figure out what is going on and get him the proper treatment.

Hello Everyone!

Opa, Good to hear from you. Please let Hope know I will be praying for her step-dad and for his doctors to find the right treatment for him. We had those high winds here also and the forecast says 62 today but highs in the 10 day forecast are all in the 50s. I'll be outside trying to get all the "winterizing" done during this next week. Took the second (and last for this year) group of meaties to the processer yesterday. Feels good to have the freezer full going into the winter.

Ranchie, Love the monkey surrogate mommies! How's the second group doing?

Hi all. Sam, I read that trilogy also, last winter. I couldn't put them down. Read 2 of them straight through. Been busy getting buttoned up for winter here. Put all my Serama's in with the BO girls about a week ago. So far all is good. They'll be a lot warmer in the big insulated coop and i won't have any chickens in the house this winter till march when i intend to get 15 more chicks for layers in the fall. My big girls will all be canned as stewing hens at about 2 1/2 yrs old.

Ranchie, Wish i had a monkey to snuggle up to.
