Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

Dang, I must be the last one standing on a Sat. night!

, that's very ironic for me these days.

Love Rueben sandwiches, but learned long ago to never get between DH and one! He is a true addict and only gets them rarely. I have sauerkraut on hand, just need to get the rest while it's on sale. Stocking the freezer is a big thing for me.

Morning Everyone.. well it's 3.22am here......

Lynsey took me to see the Wernlas Collection on Saturday.... this is one of the largest collections of rare breed chickens in the UK.... I was smitten!..... I really should not go near chicks.... I came home with six Brahma babies.... as I type they are chirping away happily in my office.... Angus the cat is fascinated... and I think to myself you have gone and done it again... especially after promising myself I will never raise chicks again!..... ahh well... hopefully I will not become a Roo magnet like Ranchand.... praying that I will have all "girls".....

I was a little disappointed in the set up at the Wernlas.... it was not "chicken tourist" place at all...... just many many chickens arks (tractors) in a very messy field with lots of moles hills and holes.. you cerainly had to watch your step... the arks where in need of repair and how those birds had survived the winter was have just had is a miracle... but they all looked healthy enough..... all the rare breeds that I wanted had already been ordered... dang it!.... so my quest for Vorweks and Sultans is still on.... and betwen £28 - £35 per bird can work out quite expensive if one needs a few!

I did take my camera with me... but to be perfectly honest it was not worth taking pics... (can't believe I said that) ............... not much else to report back on actually folks...

But must say good to see you all again.....

Till next time....

Sorry, I was back tracking earlier posts.

The birds are good! I have some nice pullets from the last hatch, but still need a few more. I would like to have just one...please just one....good rooster. So far, I have a silkie who thinks he's a sumu wrestler, ( I actually like him. He helps me on occassion herd the other chickens in.

), and three others who I'm watching to see who stays. I remind them I have two young ones who can easily take their place.

Whoops! knew there was something else.........

Opa the tractor is fantastic!.... and am most impressed with the scrimshaw carvings. stunning and quite collectible!..... Many years ago when I was at sea, the ship called into an old whaling station just off the Australian Coast... the whalers there would carve the most beautiful designs onto whale teeth.... your carvings Opa are as good as any I have seen!..

Linda! SIX chicks? Get them out of your office and into another room, your lungs don't need the stress, ya numpty.

I will have a bachelor pad soon as the ground becomes less muddy.

We have another existing building, yet to be reclaimed. Our ground is so bad in spots, you actually sink in the mud. The chickens all love it, me...not so much.

The rain hasn't helped either.
