Here is a picture of my friend Lance and a nice steelhead from the river where the fishing tournament I fished yesterday. Unfortunately the picture is from last year. We launch the boat by moonlight and we sitting in the river above the first hole when the tournament kicked off at 7am. We worked miles of runs and fished numerous holes to no avail. At the end of the day and we returned to the launch we weren't very surprized that almost everyone had the same luck as we. Only two small trout were caught and they were caught within a 100' of the launch on a lure that Lance had given the other fisherman.

Today is a day for trying to get a few more things accomplished before winter sets in with a vengence. It's supposed to be near 50 and with the extended forecast it will probably be the last time we see temperatures this warm until late April.

That's a nice picture, too bad you didn't have any luck this time. Most of the fun of fishing is the trying though as far as I am concerned. I haven't fished in years, but when I would fish with my Dad, it was just nice to spend time together. I didn't care if I caught something or not. I think it is time to get a fishing license and start taking the kids fishing again.

Thanks for the well wishes my little one, he is better today. He didn't have any problems last night thank goodness. One of the things that stinks about croup is it comes while they are sleeping and can come back for a couple of nights after the first attack. The steroids they gave him seem to have worked thankfully!

Today is supposed to be around 60 degrees, so it is a good day to finish getting the yard ready for winter. We didn't do it yet because of our freak snowstorm of a couple of weeks ago. Now the snow is almost all gone and the weather is back to more seasonable temps.

I smiled when I saw that picture because I thought it meant you had had a good day fishing yesterday. Sorry it didn't work out. It's really not been your week, has it?

You have had a rough week, Opa. Sorry to hear about the fishing trip! ( Have you considered hiding in bed tomorrow? ). btw, you ( your son ), were dead on with the egg count for pickled bantam eggs. 18 in a quart jar is perfect! Thanks.

Tomorrow is opening day of our deer gun season and this year I find myself having a hard time working up much enthusiasm. David and I went today and hung a tree stand for him and cut a path through the fallen trees to my blind. Negotiating the obstacle course of logs, and wading through water to get to the blind certainly lessens the desire to hunt and then looking at how dificult getting a deer out is going to be takes the joy down another notch or two. Still I haven't missed an opening day since 1977 and I'm not going to let anything cause me to miss them now. However, since the temperature is supposed to be above 60 tomorrow David and I both will not shoot unless it's a trophy exceeding what we already have hanging on the wall.

Once cold weather gets here, the ground hardens, and I don't have to butcher the same day as the kill I will get serious about filling our freezers. Venison tastes too good to see any spoil due to warm weather.

Good luck on the hunt Opa!

My neighbor next door got a fourteen pointer with his bow yesterday! I could see the rack above the sides of his pickup and had to ask how big it was! He had a whole crew of guys cleaning it for just the reason you say, too warm.
