Just wonderin', Do vegetarians eat eggplant?

Doctors say....don't eat this, don't eat that. I have been told from several folks who are nearing the 90/ 100 yr. mark that hard work & moderation is the key. My DH's grandmother had an egg & toast almost every single morning and lived to be 96 yrs. old. I also have a client who has a glass of beer or wine every single night after dinner. I have high cholesterol.....hereditary factor...and my Dr. told me if I want to eat shrimp and cheese to go ahead just don't over do it....again...moderation.

Opa my daddy and I were having a discussion one day that was not going the way he wanted it to (ie, he was losing).....he does have relatively bad hearing (he is 82).....so to "win" the discussion, he said to me "I am sorry, I can't hear you today"

So now this is the line we all use when we don't want to continue a discussion

Going to steal that line.

Now that I've reached the age of "cheater specs", I can also use the line as "Sorry, I can't read you today".

Granny's birthday gift was a complete hit with her. She was absolutely thrilled and loved seeing pictures that she hadn't seen in years.

I sure hate this time of year. When you wake at 430 and the sun doesn't come up until 8 it sure is depressing. This has been one of the warmest Novembers on record and so I haven't hunted very much. I don't want to kill a deer and immediately have to start butchering to prevent it from spoiling. Since I have until the 1st of January to tag out I'm not too concerned about filling my freezers, yet.

Spent Saturday working on my boat. I want to mount the trolling motor battery midship to keep the weight distributed a little more evenly. With that plan the wires on the trolling motor I bought are much too short. The gunwhales of the boat are capped with an aluminum tube so I've run wires inside of it to the middle of the boat and will put a quick disconnect on the stern end to connect to the motor.

While a 30#thrust trolling motor probably would have be adequate to move my boat, many people I talked with felt that a 40# would be a much safer bet. While it was $80 more it was probably the smarter buy. It would be sad to have purchased a #30 and find it wasn't adequate. The only problem with the 40# was that the shaft was 6" longer and much too high to use comfortably. So it was just a simple matter of shortening the shaft. Sure, nothing to it. Right. Took 5 minutes to take the head off. Another 5 minutes to cut the shaft, another 5 to shortening the wiring and install new connectors. Then it took close to a hour to reassemble everything. Just when you thought I had all the wires inserted in the proper slot and was lowering the top back, on a wire would pop up and I'd have to start all over again.

I've ordered the quick disconnects and the battery box with circuit breakers in it and they should arrive midweek. Once those are in place and I pick up a deep cycle battery I'm all ready to start fishing the rivers for steelhead with a vengence. Now I just have to wait for the return of temperatures warm enough to allow me to sit in the boat without freezing solid.

Opa, so glad Granny enjoyed the present!! Please wish her a happy (belated) birthday from the ranch! Even tho I suspect that you had as much fun sorting thru the pictures as you did putting them in, it's still a wonderful present.

Today is starting out wet and gloomy. Temperature is 36 and not expected to get much higher for the rest of the day. All the rain we have had the last couple of days is going to make getting to my deer blind even more miserable. Yesterday morning I had an 8 point buck in the back yard and late afternoon there were to does feeding on the clover. I think that today rather than going to the farm to hunt I am going to sit inside my shop. The building is two story and a second floor window will allow a 50 yard shot to where the deer were yesterday. Sure would be much easier than climbing over and around all the fallen trees and wading the water to get to my deer blind.
