Hi guys! So we have a week old Wyandotte chick that’s appears to have a naval infection. Couple of days ago I went through our chicks cleaning pasty butts. This chick had a clean vent but umbilical and hatching remains dried up on it’s naval. I left it at the time just thinking it will fall off on it own and was so caked up I didn’t want to cause harm. Today I checked it and could smell rot so I decided to clean it all off. The naval is completely opened and I pushed infected fluids out. Covered things up with some polysporin. Chick has shown no signs of being sick and is a week old today. Once back in the brooder the other chicks started after it a bit. Put it in isolation now until it dries off. Is there anything else we can really do right now other than keeping it clean?

Seems lively enough. There was a bit of blood which has dried on the area. Blood might have been from the other chicks pecking him. They have stopped now that things have dried up

How are things going with your chick? I have two that had yolk attached and have struggled to find ways to clean them post “coffee cup” in the incubator. They both seem both super strong and also super weak.

Chick healed up nicely and is doing well. Feathered out around the abdomen and there was a scab i left alone. This chick is the smallest of the batch i'm guessing because it spent its time and energy fighting infection instead of growth during week one. All we did was clean the area after gently squeezing any fluid out and put a dab of polysporine on the area. We also spiked their water with vitamins.
